It was a hot summer's day, August. The sun beat down in the car, the three driving down a long road.
In the front, Max was completely asleep, his hand in the back touching his sister's foot.

May was sitting in her car seat, silently playing with her rabbit while the car went on.

Soon, they came to a grinding halt. In front of them was a beach, next to it a small shack of sorts. Nobody was there, though it was beautiful and large.
Max woke up at the sudden stop, and pushed himself up, blinking a few times to remember what was going on and where he was. Afterwards, he opened his door, going to the now open trunk to get stuff out as April opened the back door to take May out.
All silently.

The moments long span of silence suddenly was shattered by the little girl looking up at her mother and asking "Where are we, Mama?" in a squeaky tone.

"The beach." She replied, rather deadpan. She unbuckled May and pulled her out, setting her down on the sand.

May looked at the sand, picking it up in her hand as it seeped through her fingers. Having never been to the beach, she was completely and utterly confused by it.

Max was setting up things close to the shore, and opening up the cooler and grabbing a bottle of suntan lotion. He looked to May.
"Hey, come on!"

May ran towards her brother. "What, Maxy?" she asked, looking up at the boy.

"Let me put this on you, kay? Stand still, hold out your arms." He put some of the lotion on his hands, and started putting it on her. "It's suntan lotion. Makes it so the sun won't burn you. Sometimes I hate having European ancestry..."

"Why?" The girl squeaked.

"Because if the sun burns you, you'll be red hot and in pain. Then it'll peal. That's why we don't go outside without this."

"Not that, silly!" May replied. "The other thing!"

"Oh, hate of European ancestry? Well, we're pale white and burn so easily because of that."

"...but mama and I don't..." May replied flatly.

"...Well I do at least... and so do our cousins. Maybe you guys have more, like... I don't know... Indian blood or something. Black curly hair."

"...but that doesn't make any sense..." May said, pulling away from Max.

"Well then, I don't know! Somehow I burn easier than you guys, see?" He showed off his arm, which had indeed gained a bit of a red tint.

"...That's a rash, big brother!" She replied, looking at a small amount of bumps. "...did you drink the milk Mama has to buy me by accident?"

"...No?" He asked, reviewing things in his head. "But... huh... this usually happens though..."

"...but you're not in the sun enough to get sun burn that bad so quickly..."
...she wasn't gonna stop doing this.
