This is a thing me and Al worked on, Eternal Machine Halogelion. I don't know why he's so goddamn ashamed of this when I was the only one who ever did writing for it.
Eternal Machine Halogelion
Prologue:
They had never thought the day would actually come. Everything had always seemed to go against them, all the losses suffered, all of the road blocks that kept getting in the way of research, all the lack of funding from ONI.
But there it stood in the testing area, Eva-00, the prototype of the Evangelion project.
While all the scientists and bridge bunnies buzzed over the arrival, the head of NERV remained calm. Gendo Ikari just stared through the glass at the Eva, as if he was in a trance. Anyone who knew him well knew the Eva wasn’t what was truly on his mind.
On a nearby computer, the avatar of an AI appeared. “Commander Ikari, the ONI agent has arrived. Should he be led to the testing bay?”
Ikari did not respond. Instead Dr. Ritsuko Akagi did, “Yes send them in Magi.” Magi’s avatar nodded, then disappeared.
Akagi shot Ikari a look that screamed, “Please please don’t ruin this,” Ikari ignored it, and instead pressed a button on an intercom.
“Rei are you there?” he asked.
“… Yes I am,” a quiet voice responded.
“Get in your plugsuit and be on standb6y in case they want a demonstration. I bet they will…”
“Understood,” the intercom went dead.
The door slid open, “Hello Commander Ikari…” A man in a rather official looking uniform stepped in and gave a small smirk to Ikari. He seemed strangely familiar.
“Hello,” Ikari responded curtly.
“NERV is a lot bigger, then it was before. You must be benefiting from your increased funding,” The man was obviously Caucasian, but his Japanese was almost flawless.
Suddenly Ikari’s eyes lit up, in remembrance, “Langley? Elliot Langley?”
“Look Ikari, I know things have changed a bit since you-know what, and you’re probably surprised to learn that I’m the one who came. But I understand all this. Everyone else in ONI, doesn’t understand the importance of Second Impact. They don’t understand the Angels. I’m the entire reason ONI has given you funding…”
Another member of NERV was listening carefully and at this point her anger over Langley’s words made her join the conversation.
“
You little bastard!” she yelled.
Akagi stared at her colleague horrified. “Misato!?”
Langley chuckled, “Yes?”
“Like you actually care about us!” Misato continued. “Why would you not contact us for almost ten years? You only care about what helps ONI, and ultimately what’s convenient for you.”
“I’m not familiar with you,”
“Captain Misato Katsuragi,”
“Well Captain Katsuragi,” Langley said simply, “You don’t know my story. Why this place is particularly… painful…”
“I know enough to know that any pain you feel comes from a guilty conscience. From screwing over your wife, and making your daughter a sacrificial lamb!”
Langley grimaced, and avoided Misato’s gaze.
“So what is the real reason ONI gave us funding? What is the real reason there’s an Eva right there?”
Langley sighed, “There is a catch. The Evangelions are still ONI property. Do you understand how useful these things are? They could be valuable assets for the war,. For example, they are one of the few human made machines that could single handily destroy a Scarab.
“These were not created to fight the war, Langley,” Ikari responded.
“ONI doesn’t care. If they want the Evas used for the war, then they must be.”
“We’ll deal with ONI when they come, “ Ikari said shortly. “Would you like to see a demonstration?”
“You already have a pilot?” Langley asked in shock.
Ikari turned the intercom back on, “Rei get into the plug.”
A young girl entered the training bay, and several bridge bunnies helped her in the plug. Everything about the girl, her blue hair, her blood red eyes, but most importantly her unsettling aura, almost frightened Langley.
“Wha… What the fuck is that thing?”
“An Evangelion,” Ikari said sarcastically.
“No the pilot!”
“That… is humanity’s salvation.”

Chapter 1:
Asuka G-128 would have never admitted it, but she was terrified as she trailed behind her CO, through the labyrinth of hallways.
Even with all of her misconduct, she had never truly seen Colonel Ackerson before. He was the man behind the Spartan IIIs but he never interacted with them, very rarely even came to Onyx to see his pet project. The dirty work was for Kurt and Mendez.
“Lieutenant? What does the Colonel want with me?”
Kurt Ambrose turned toward her and said curtly, “ You’ll find out when you get there. Your life would be a lot easier if you learned patience. Among other things…”
Indeed her life would be easier if she’d gain qualities such as patience and respect that had been drilled into her fellow Spartans, and for that matter, every capable soldier in the USNC. Certainly she wouldn’t have the bruises on her body from corporal punishment, and the ache in her belly from being denied meals because of her insubordination.
Kurt finally stopped in front of a door and motioned her in. At the site of Colonel Ackerson, Kurt immediately snapped into a salute, and Asuka belatedly followed.
Another man was in the room with the Colonel, a rather young man
who was rather casually dressed, and looked like he had no affiliation with the Spartan III project at all. He gave a small charming smile at the site of Asuka, and said in an equally charming voice, “Asuka Langley Soryu, it’s been quite awhile.”
Asuka stared in confusion at him. Langley Soryu? Were those her surnames? Spartans didn’t have surnames though…
“Mr. Kaji, please. Let me explain this to her. From what I hear, she has issues with understanding what she is told.”
Asuka frowned and faced Ackerson.
“Asuka G-128, you are probably wondering, what is so important that I wasted time to make a Slip Space jump all of the way to Onyx?”
Asuka nodded.
“ You should be aware that the Spartan project is far from being the only project ONI, is funding. This man here,” he motioned to Kaji, “ gave me intel about a rather ambitious project by a ONI subsection known as NERV. Mr. Kaji, tell her more.”
Ryoji Kaji took a deep breath, “Asuka, you are not like the other Spartans of Gamma Company. Most of your comrades have pasts that were destroyed along with their planets. But you… you have a past. My name is Ryoji Kaji. I met you before when you were very young, before you were enlisted into the Spartan program. I was an associate of your father, and still am.”
“What the fuck are you talking about!” Asuka yelled, “ My family is gone! That’s what I was told…”
“No Asuka… You aren’t like the others. You have a different purpose. That’s why you’re being reassigned…”
The second the word “reassigned” came out of Kaji’s mouth, Asuka gasped and lunged toward him. Despite the fact she was half the man’s age, her augmented body caused her to have a major physical advantage over him. She forced her hands around his throat and began screaming incoherently at him.
“Ambrose stop her!” Ackerson roared.
Kurt, the only person in the room stronger then Asuka, pulled her off Kaji with ease.
“YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME! YOU CAN’T THROW ME OUT OF HERE!” she roared, trying to struggle from Kurt’s grasp.
“Lieutenant take her away, and restrain her. When she’s calm I’ll send Kaji to her and get this over with.”
As Asuka was taken away, Kaji could only sit on the floor in shock, stroking his neck. “Damn, she’s strong.”
“She’s a Spartan,” Ackerson answered. Though in his eyes Asuka was far from being a true Spartan. Unlike his predecessor, Dr. Halsey, Ackerson only saw his Spartans as machines, that were meant to buy time. Asuka had too much human in her. More specifically, the ugly parts of the human nature.
If it had been any other Spartan, that NERV had been requesting, he would have rejected them. But he couldn’t wait to see the back of Asuka.
And besides, if this crazy NERV project actually worked, he would gain a bit of fame for being responsible for the training of the Second Child. That wouldn’t hurt anything.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It was quiet. Too quiet.
Well except for the loudspeaker that blared throughout the city.
“Attention all civilians. A special state of emergency has been called for the Kanto and Chubu regions, surrounding the Tokai districts. All residents must evacuate to their designated shelters,”
A lone teenaged boy was on the street, not heeding the advice. He punched a number into a cell phone, only to hear a voice that was way more cheerful then it needed to be say, “ I’m sorry. Your service has been cut off because of a state of emergency. Please try again later.”
“Goddamnit!” the boy yelled, “I thought that’s what these things were for! Emergencies!”
He really did choose the wrong day to arrive in the country. Could he just waltz into a shelter? He had to do something. Something was wrong he could feel it.
He looked around, and something caught his attention. Another human being, a girl about his age, with blonde hair.
“Hey excuse me! Could you-“
She was suddenly gone.
The boy cocked his head in confusion and rubbed his eyes. It must have been the jet lag. It had been a long flight from America.
Suddenly a loud sound broke the silence, the sound of bombs going off. The boy looked up in confusion, as he saw about a mile off, several Falcons fleeing from something. When he saw that something his expression turned to horror,
“OH MY GOD!”
-------------------------
“Commander Ikari, we have a visual coming in.”
“Bring it on screen!” Ikari ordered.
The deed was done, and everyone in the Tactical Command room gasped in shock, except for Ikari himself. It was a creature the size of a mountain. It’s most noteworthy features was a large red sphere on it’s chest, and a grotesque bird shaped face.
“It’s been fifteen years…” Kozo Fuyutsuki mumbled from behind Ikari, |”but…”
“
Yup… that is definantly an Angel.” Gendo said casually.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The boy stared in horror as the Angel grasped one of the Falcons. Metal ripped like tissue paper, as the Angel dug it’s grasp in, and it gracefully flung it toward the city.
Right toward him.
The boy reacted fast, and hit the ground, as the Falcon slammed into a nearby building. Burning debris floated down to his body and burned his skin. He did not move, he was too terrified to.
He barely registered the sound of wheels skidding to a stop, and a car door being opened, Only when he heard the voice of a young women going, “Daaaamn…” did he look up.
She was a young woman, with long dark hair, and sunglasses. She was trying to be cool and collected, but it was easy to tell she was just as terrified as him.
She tore her eyes from the Falcon wreck, and helped him up, ‘Are you
Shinji Ikari?” she asked,
He nodded.
She returned to her car, and opened the passenger door “Get in then. We need to get you out of here, before the Angel or ONI does something that will get you killed.”
He obeyed and they drove off.
Shinij sat in a stupor for several minutes, as his savior concentrated on driving. Finally he asked, “Are you Captain Katsuragi?”
She snorted, “You didn’t think to ask that before you got in the car? Yes I am. You can call me Misato though.”
“So you’re here to take me to my father?”
“That’s the plan,” Misato said, almost too cheerfully.
Shinji was quiet again for a few minutes. He eventually looked up and asked, “Misato? What is that thing? Is it some sort of Covenant thing?”
“No it has nothing to do with the Covenant. It’s something much worse…”
